Press release competition

I can't believe it is almost a month since I updated this.

The last few weeks have been somewhat hectic, having been at all corners of Scotland and down into Yorkshire for the Beef Expo, organised by the National Beef Association.

You may recall that I said a while ago that the Guild organised a press release competition. Well, June is the month in which it will be judged.

Cedric Porter, editor of Farm Life and Farm Business, is doing the honours. Quite what he is looking for I am not quite sure as yet, but I have e-mailed him and asked his judging criteria.

There are two prizes up for grabs; one for the press release deemed the best and another for the entry that collects the wooden spoon.

The overall winner will get the distinction of winning the annual award from the Guild's regional group in the Midlands, plus a nice bottle of malt whisky from me. The entry with the wooden spoon will get another bottle of whisky, but most definitely not the same size as the overall winner. I would hope it would encourage the "winner" of this accolade to do better next time around.

I know when I wrote about the quality of press releases previously it stirred up a hornet's next of correspondence.

Well to those who drew the high and mighty line, here's the ideal opportunity to prove yourself, and get something from me in the process.

I'm still amazed at the "quality" of releases I receive. Many are no more than free adverts for a particular product; others meaningless waffle.

Once I hear back from Cedric, I'll let you know what he's looking for.

Have fun!

Joe
